Chief Operating Officer
University of Minnesota Physicians (UMP) is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join its executive leadership team.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the COO serves as the senior executive responsible for the day-to-day operational performance of UMP, a leading multi-specialty academic medical group comprising approximately 1,500 physicians, 500 Advanced Practice Providers, and 200 Staff. This executive leader will translate organizational strategy into operational excellence across finance, clinic operations, information technology, revenue cycle, business development, and facilities management.
The COO will partner closely with physician leaders, health system executives, University of Minnesota Medical School leadership, and the UMP Board of Directors to drive organizational growth, optimize practice performance, strengthen physician engagement, and expand UMP's influence across Minnesota and the region.

Responsibilities
- Partner with the CEO and Board to execute UMP's strategic vision and organizational priorities.
- Provide leadership for all business and operational functions, including finance, clinic operations, IT, revenue cycle, business development, and facilities.
- Drive operational performance, efficiency, and service excellence through data-driven decision-making and accountability.
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation to ensure long-term sustainability.
- Develop and implement growth strategies that expand patient access, clinical services, and market presence.
- Build strong partnerships with physician leaders, university stakeholders, and health system partners.
- Oversee and develop senior leaders across key operational functions.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MD, MBA, MHA, or related field).
- 10+ years of progressive healthcare operations leadership experience.
- 7+ years in a senior executive role within a physician practice, medical group, health system, or similar healthcare organization.
- Experience leading multi-specialty physician group operations and financial management.
- Proven success overseeing clinic operations, finance, IT, revenue cycle, payer contracting, physician relations, and business development.
- Strong expertise in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance management.
- Demonstrated success driving organizational growth, operational improvement, and transformation initiatives.
- Ability to lead effectively in complex, matrixed organizations.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an academic medical center, faculty practice plan, teaching hospital, or university-affiliated health system.
- Experience with physician practice integration, mergers and acquisitions, or practice growth initiatives.
- Knowledge of healthcare regulatory and compliance requirements, including Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and HIPAA.
- Experience supporting regional growth and market expansion strategies.

Compensation:
