We are currently looking for a Design Controls Engineer to join our dynamic team in Zagreb or Rijeka, Croatia!
As a Design Controls Engineer, you will take ownership of the design and development of advanced control systems for mission-critical facilities and modular infrastructure projects. You will lead the delivery of Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and related automation solutions that ensure reliability, efficiency, and sustainability.
The role combines engineering design, software development, network architecture, and system integration. You will develop control system solutions and BIM-based designs, producing engineering deliverables such as control schematics, I/O lists, network diagrams, sequences of operation, equipment specifications, and material submittals. You will also contribute to PLC software architecture, SCADA application development, industrial communication networks, and integration of third-party systems.
We're looking for engineers who enjoy solving complex, critical engineering challenges, continuously improving technology solutions, and working with modern automation platforms, virtualization technologies, industrial protocols, and AI-assisted engineering tools.
What kind of work will you be doing?
- Lead conceptual and detailed design of BMS, EPMS, and industrial control systems for projects of varying complexity.
- Develop control system documentation, including riser diagrams, network diagrams, I/O lists, functional descriptions, sequences of operation, material submittals, and technical specifications.
- Design control system architectures, industrial communication networks, and integration strategies for third-party equipment.
- Develop and review PLC/DDC software solutions using platforms such as CODESYS and other modern control technologies.
- Design and support SCADA/HMI applications, preferably using Ignition.
- Configure and integrate Ethernet-based industrial networks, switches, and communication protocols, including Modbus TCP/RTU, BACnet, OPC UA, MQTT, and SNMP.
- Design and configure redundant SCADA systems, including redundant central SCADA units, redundant databases, and redundant MQTT brokers, all running in a virtualized environment.
- Coordinate and supervise controls, fire alarm, and security system integrators.
- Provide technical guidance to suppliers, subcontractors, installers, and manufacturing teams.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Site Deployment, Commissioning, and Quality teams throughout project execution.
Qualifications?
- University degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology.
- Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Experience with automation, control systems, and system integration in industrial, commercial, or mission-critical environments.
- Knowledge of the following areas is preferred, but not mandatory:
- PLC/DDC programming (CODESYS preferred)
- SCADA platforms (Ignition preferred)
- AutoCAD and BIM tools (Revit preferred)
- Control panel design, testing, and commissioning
- Industrial communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, OPC UA, MQTT, SNMP)
